  • Vray and Opterons

    Hi,

I've seen some news from siggraph, but one stands out.
Splutterfish is using a Boxx Opteron system and getting a boost in render time( don't no how much). From what I understand the are optimizing their code just to render in 64 bit, like a plugin.I understand that you can run
windows and max in an Opteron right now but you will throw away the extra 32 bit processing and everything else the Opteron has to offer.
But if the render part works as a plugin and uses it all, I will order a dual
Opteron as sonn as I can.You won't have to wait for a Max64 version
Vlado, any tests like this so far?Can it work like this?

    Regards,
    Best regards,

As far as I know the opteron uses 64 bit or if you have 32 bit task it splits calculating up into to services, which means it's a little bit like a multiprocessor-system. The technic behind is a little bit like the one in the XEONs.
Speed is another thing, we have here a very good newspaper (ct) that make test's every release (2 weeks) and therefor I remember that in the last issue they wrote a comparsion between all the fastes stuff. PovRay-Test are very close to our renderings. All I can say for short about this test is, that Intel is still faster in rendering (the best and newest Pentium).
I think we have to wait till they tell us the price of the AMD64 and next we need to know if it is able to runs in dual board (else it's to expensive for rendering)
