When your typing website address in web browser and hit enter it sends question to server and waits for response. When you activate "pipelining" function Firefox will be sending instead of 1, 8 questions. The outcome is much faster website loading. It's similar idea to how popular download accelerators works (splitting file into parts).

Is it more clear how it works now ?

hmmm so why dont they just make it the default?

You know what they say, there's no such thing as a shortcut, if it really was a shortcut, it would just be the way

Because THEORETICALLY this function might lead to improper page loading. PRACTICALLY it was a case but it was few years back when using this function.

Try it and if with time you will see it doesn't work for you, restore default settings.

                My Firefox has now lightspeed

I think I used to do that with the first firefox releases, then I forgot about it cos it didn't seem to make any actual difference.. tried again now that you brought it up, but I can't see any speed gain when loading pages. is there any particular case where you experience any substantial difference?

Well, in my case it made everything slower. Some parts of the page loaded immediately, but some (pictures) took even 10 sec or so.

I've been burned by "Try this candy little boy, it's delicious." in the past. Not happening again...Unless of course this candy is good.
