  • Max2011 renders fail with MultiScatter or Forest Pro

I was going to post this in Problems, but I'm not sure it Vray. Could be Max, Vray, MultiScatter or Forest Pro. I use both MS and FP and have not been able to get a successful render with Max 2011. At the end of the rendering process one of my CPU cores remains spiked at 100%. The rendered image will save if it is set to save automatically. But I have to kill the Max process and relaunch to continue working. I don't have MS and FP in the same scene. I'm new to FP so mostly I used MS.

The scatter objects are the usual landscape subjects - trees, grass, rocks, etc. The areas scattered are not ridiculously gigantic. We're talking areas like 25'x50' to 200'x200'.

I tend to think this is a Max 2011 problem as I never had this sort of issue with 2010.

Does anyone have a suggestion on using either product successfully in Max 2011?

contact itoo support, they can help you to save a special file to find the cause of the crash.
it's pretty impressive what they "see" in this file.

Seems that the render problems with FP was due to Xrefing the scene with the FP system. If I merge the FP systems into the scene then everything renders fine. Too bad I use a lot of Xref files. Usually the site and buildings are all in separate files then Xrefed into a master file for lighting and rendering. I'll have to change my workflow to make this work. And I'll see what Itoo can recommend.

Heard back from Carlos about the FP xref issue.
