is there a way to rotate an object, matching the rotation of another object? I have walls that are no square to the screen so I want to create, and activate, a grid. I would like to rotate the grid to match the walls rotation.

You could create a line that is square to the new alignment and extrude it up. Then create a grid using the autogrid feature. Activate grid and you are good to go.

You could also just use Normal Aligh to put the normal of one object on the normal of another.

Thanks guys. I ended up just using the tape to get the one rotation information. I'll check out that script.

To be honest, this is one thing that really annoys me about 3D Studio Max. A new version every year but there is still no way to accurately rotate to a reference object. AutoCAD can do it and it's the same company so what's the matter?

Thanks for the 3-point align script, I will give that a go!

I normally use the align tool with all the position bits turned off, or use a tape object with vertex snap on and draw a line between two vertices of the mesh I want to align too. then align my object to the end of the tape object.

Yeah it's handy - I'm sure there's a more direct way to do it but it's pretty good.

Was creating the Grid object with AutoGrid turned on not an option?
