What is a free Adobe Soundbooth alternative?

I'm looking for a sound file editor to crop, cut, fade sound files like mp3, wav etc. Anything decent out there in the sourceforge flavour or the like?

(P.S. - Adobe Audition replaces Adobe Soundbooth in CS5.5)
