  • Converting NURBS to SPLINES - how?

    Hi all!

Do you guys know of any method/script/plugin that let's you convert nurbs curves to splines?
I have this job that requires using splines as paths for distributing tiny objects on the model's surface. there is no other way for me to get those splines as in an IGES file - which sadly, after being imported to max opens as a NURBS surface (even if there is no surface, only curves). I know that I can use nurbs curves as paths, but I need to be able to convert them to splines. Been searching for some scripts, but the only one I found does not work in max 2009 (it's like 5 or more years old...).

    any ideas?

In theory it would be possible to trace a nurbs cv or point curve with a script and connect points to a spline curve, but there is no way to do a perfect conversion, since the nurbs curves are very different in nature than bezier spline curves.
What you would get is something like the viewport representation of the curves, depending on the settings in the "curve appoximation" rollout of the nurbs curve.
