  • Discreet shocking the 3D market

hi! i found this post on another board:

Discreet shocked the 3D market today by announcing that it will not now be releasing version 6 of it's premier 3D software package 3DS Max, but instead unveiling it's successsor, the as yet unnamed, but existing by the code name 'valhalla', though not. it is thought, until Jan 04.
This product is a completely revised code.
Advanced features are said to include a completely node based architecture, with the ability to switch at any point between a completely revised nurbs toolset and polygons or patches at any point, non destructive mesh editing at any point, a new boning system that rids the need of envelopes or IF/FK switching, morph targeting that doesn't need the saving of mesh copies as it just stores the changed model info, advanced volumetric shaders, fluid simulation, advanced bone, hair and cloth dynamics, a very hush hush mapping and painting system that is rumoured to take the pain out of mapping, completely revised and customisable interface... plus much else, including, it is rumoured a linux port.
Although they insisted that the pricing point will remain constant as usual, they did stongly hint that a special introductory offer of $1,945 was being actively considered.
They also insist that the amount of negative feedback over V6 bore no influence on this decision but rather.. " we found that we were actually ahead of our initial projections on the timescale of bringing this baby to market and so no reason therefore not to let our users benefit asap."

The link is now down... but earlier it said they're actually implementing xdugef'd operations within non-destructive/bi-truncated meshes.
        Talk about breaking paradigms...

        YEEHAAA!!!
