    What's up with the AA in the LW renderings? Very nice technique and well composed though.

    Here are links to some aircraft I've rendered with VRay. I'm not as skilled as The Embassy but my aircraft look ok in animation and that's all I'm focused on using them for currently.

    C/C would be welcomed. Any comparisons could help me improve the stills.

    Jujubee: I can't view your bandsaw/ scrollsaw for some reason. Will you post a link to the JPGs?

    On a side note, I just picked up a PS special edition titled "Space 2100" Very interesting illustrations and well written IMHO.

      Well, I have started with Lightwave 9 years ago, but went to Max after 3 years. The reason was speed. You can do everything faster in Max and you have more tools that allow you to go back or modifie. One of worsed things in LW is that modelling and rendering is divided.

      Funny enough that was one of the reasons I migrated from 3D Studio 4 to Lightwave . 3D Studio used to be split into moduels, but this changed with MAX.

      I hear where your coming from with the two apps argument, but things have changed dramatically from version 6 (something your chronology suggests you missed). Since LW6 we have had the "HUB", this is a seperate app that runs in the background and gives realtime updates between Modeler and Layout. Now it feals no different that flipping between tabs, ala Maya or Soft.
      There are a lot of tools that would hugely benifit from being brought under one application unbrella, but as they are nearly all character animation tools this isn't a concern of mine (I produce mainly stills and fly throughs). There are a couple tools that could probably only be done justice to in a unified app that I would really want, the chief of these being able to model in a camera view to model stand ins for camera projection textures.

      At the end of te day it is mainly a difference of workflow preference and each program having some features the other doesn't, i.e. LW users envy the joint angle deformers in MAX, but wouldn't give up endo-morphs for them.

          paul...

          @yog:
          thanks for the detailed explination about the lightwave render.....
          I have a friend that is a heavy LW user and he always bugs me on how much faster is to model in LW then in max.....as well as the quality of the LW render...

          but I think with vray the tides are turning.....fast.
          I think now max can be competitive in TV/film as well - too bad vray doesn't come "out-of-the-box" with max.....but I guess one thing at the time...hehehe

          paul.

              it just so happens to be in the same issue as these planes are. don't buy it cause of me- it's not worth it. personally I prefer Discover. just thought I'd mention it in case you are in a bookstore and happen to be browsing through. this is the first 'semi-popular' magazine that I've ever had some (albeit very very minor) level of incorporation into. it's kinda exciting. my 15 minutes of fame (even though my names isn't even mentioned lol.)
