  • Nvidia GTX 590 vs ATI 6990? For viewport? For RT?

    Hi all

OK so we looked at various benchmarks (mostly games benchmarks), and it seems these 2 cards are neck in neck.

However, for our purpose (Max viewport as well as VRay RT), which of these 2 would you recommend and why?
because you're an Nvidia fan or an ATI fan, doesnt count

(Price are also about the same)
    Kind Regards,
    Morne

I don't know about the viewport, but as far as V-Ray RT goes, you can take a look at the current benchmarks here: http://www.chaosgroup.com/forums/vbu...969#post445969

I don't have a 6990 card, but there are results for a 5970 and a 6970 card, which may be some pointers.

However keep in mind that these results are current for the moment; with the release of new drivers from nVidia and AMD, things may change.

      Best regards,
      Vlado

        thanks.

If you look only at the specs, and not at benchmarks, it would appear the 6990 is the better option. However as stated, currently for RT the 590 beats the 6990. I wonder if you would notice a difference in viewport, since historicly max viewport is buggy in general (but nitrous has potential). Wonder when they will jack up the drivers.
        Kind Regards,

looks at the temps of both of this cards.
and take the lowest one. it's safer and with hightemp, the life time of your CG is shorter .

Another point of view will be to advice you to take a nvidia. Because you not only have openCL but CUDA too. and Cuda is Magic !!

Yes i would also get the nvidia.
On top of cuda you get physX hardware support, 3d vision, mercury playback and all the other nice stuff in the adobe suite that wont work with ATI.
            Reflect, repent and reboot.
            Order shall return.
