It would be great if I could borrow one of those for a week... At 50k a pop i think it's pretty much limited to major studios. They should come down in price- they can't be selling too many....
I think Sachform on the other hand does use the 'traditional' method. They have some stunning images in their libraries.
I ordered a stainless steel chrome ball from Mcmasters yesterday- much to my amazement it showed up this morning.
So now I've got this silver ball and an extra tripod. How the heck can I mount it without a big footprint from the tripod base? Anyone got any good suggestions? Drilling is a pain as it is a very difficult material to drill- plus I don't know any machine shops around me. Just wondering if anyone has tried to make an hdr with a stainless steel ball and what kind of support did they use.
You could get something like a fiberglass rod with an aluminum sleave on it or even just a rigid piece of plastic and then rig it on with a wad of that stick up stuff you can use for posters. It's not a permanent solution but should work fine.
There are also small clear suction cups but they may have trouble sticking to the sphere.
Tack welding a tinny little bracket that you can screw onto anything might be the best idea if you can get ahold of some welding supplies.
