I was working on a scene last night, at my kitchen table, using my laptop. I have a nice laptop with 8Gb of ram, but I wasn't expecting my scene to render. I hit render about 1 am, thinking it would still be rendering in the morning, but it was done in a little over an hour. This same scene, at the office using 6 machines, would have taken longer. I am assuming the render was fast because all my textures were local. Is there a script that will copy my scenes assets to all the local drives? I know changing paths to UNC is needed, correct? So, I would like to hit a button, and have all the scene assets get copied to the local drive; is this wishful thinking or is it something I can do? I can manually copy, but I would rather not.

I am running some test. Other than a stop watch, how do you know how long it takes for pre-calcs? The rendering VFB stamp tells you rendering times and not the actually start-to-finish time.

I know only of a sync app softwares... for example allways sync (which im using right now) to back up my data. U can configure it to distribute files on ur network too.

But if u have that problem with transfering files I sugest inwesting in proper gear that can transfer ur files fast enought....

I'm using syncback to copy textures to all render nodes with 1 click.

It will only be quicker loading them...not rendering them.

All textures & scene assests get loaded into max/vray at the start of the render....once loaded into RAM, that's it, it doesn't need to load ANYTHING any more, it just renders away.

It is possible you have bitmap proxies enabled [in max] as this appears to cause these sort of difference in render times from what I read on the forum

I have downloaded, and installed, syncback. I set it up in minutes; very easy to use! I thought the bitmap proxies, post 2009, isn't an issue anymore. I'll check it out!
