  • Anybody have tips about animating a dragonfly / bee / butterfly? (and motionblur?)

In particular the wings of the dragonfly / bee, and the motion of the butterfly
How would you handle motion blur for the fast moving wings of the dragonfly / bee?
    Kind Regards,
    Morne

for butterflies i usually draw a path. link a dummy to it. then take another dummy linked to that dummy and add noise controller to its position. the butterfly is position constrained to the two dummies so i can blend between smooth flight and random wing flapping flight

Elf I think he means how to handle motion blur on the wings. Its similar to helicopter rotor blades. With true 3d motion blur the only real way to get the proper blurring is to get the exact value for the revelations per minute and that divide that time and convert that into keyframes that you can edit. Once you turn on the motion blur you will get correct blur. What we do sometimes is make 3 variations of speed and just choose which one looks best on screen.
