It's my portable workstation... if I can't connect me to my farm when I am on "vacation" for 3 months of the year... those 20lb can do it without problems... fat is better!!!

M17X, the M18 was not available when I got mine
it's loaded with 2 video cards 1GB each...I don't want to see what they have now, because I won't be able to control myself to buy one

ah that's a pity. would be cool to run 3 monitors from it or two monitors and one wacom cintiq.

Why did you decide to go with alienware? I saw that lenovo thinkpad 520w is quite nice and tough on top of it. Or boxx laptop solutions?

Alienware was made to run 100% all day long...they don't cut corners..if you want a powerful computer and it has to weight 20lb, it has to be(It is what it is)...at Boxx, they don't have prices on-line so you have to request it.. I hate that!!
I will buy another Alienware for sure!! It's expensive if you only want to use it to play games but It's a great portable workstation.

I'm asking because I was planning for some time now to get myself some "portable workstation" and truth is I was thinking about Apple. But you after looking at the Alienware it looks very very tempting. THe only other option is Lenovo thinkpad w520 I read it's tough as Kalashnikov so you can drop it and data will still be safe

You got 1920x1080 res LCD ?

Alienware has the same feature...I will worry more about my feet instead, if that laptop hit you you could lose a foot.......I also like backlit (you can change the colors as well) keyboard in my case very useful when you are working late inside a hotel room with your wife/partner and you don't want to turn on lights....for security also has Aliensense for facial recognition and many cool things.

The screen 1920 x 1200 LCD and you could pick the option for 3D capable with 120Hz as well,
