nothing is new under the rays of the sun or the internet.... if I design a house pretty much I could find hundreds of similar ones that I haven't seen them before in internet.. today is very difficult to be creative and unique at the same time.... everything looks like something else!!
for movies you want use references to catch the attention and use the collective memory as a tool... you don't have to be an expert to figure it out how similar the "other side" in Star wars is carbon copy of the Nazis.... and the Jedis are Samurai/Ninjas and Yoda is and old asian master and even his name sounds Japanese like Mr. Miyagi in Karate Kid
