  • Windows 7 system mirrored to another drive

Hi there guys. I've basically just purchased an SSD drive and wish to have windows 7 on this drive. I remember there was a thread somewhere that mentioned about mirroring the current system drive to a new one so that if it goes wrong you can just replace the drive. Does anyone remember what software there is to do this ?

I dOnt know about the thread but ive read somewhere that mirroring from classic hdd to ssd has some stability issues. I think it was in one of those ssd reviews or maybe in an article on newegg or anandtech.

I ended up using Driveimage XML from runtime software (free). I have had some teething problems with start-up repair and losing all my emails but I can get them from the previous windows 7 installation. I have to say though that the performance is unbelievable. My system boots up so quickly now and feels like a whole new machine overall.
      Very impressed !

I read the comments based on one articles on newegg about the OCZ vertex 3 250gb SSD drive but there didn't seem to be any major concerns about stability.

        Hi Steve,

The SSD's are great, I did the same thing you've just done to all my drives, transfered each
HDD to a new SSD, the only problem I had was data alignment on the new SSDs after the
transfers, this effectively cut the speed of the SSD drives by a half and I wondered what the
f*** was going on. I don't know all the ins and outs of data alignment but Paragon Alignment
tool is a fantastic bit of softare that soon fixed this and the drives now fly. So if any one else
has a sluggish/slow SSD that they think may not be running to its full potential try using some
        alignment software.

a fresh install should only take half a day, everything will be clean and fast, like your new drive.. and less possibilities for problems! once youve done an install on your ssd, just make a backup to a normal drive and restore from that in the future.. just my 10p's worth.

All the major HDD manufacturers (Seagate, Maxwell, Western Digital) and maybe others use a branded version of Acronis True Image which is an absolutely amazing drive imaging tool. It'll take a full system image of your drive - *while* windows is running. The only requirement is one of the drives has to be from the manufacturer supplying Acronis - ie get it from WD if you have 1 WD drive and it'll clone to any other drive mfr.

By far the best imaging tool I've ever used.

I was having problems with the OCZ drive. Blue screens, freezes and windows would shut down and hard drive wouldnt be seen by the bios, especially when using AHCI. I ended up doing a firmware upgrade to the latest and it has been working fine now for 9 hours..no problems.

Well pleased with it now. Boot up is very fast.
