Merge an old scene

Howdy-

I have an old scene, about 15 year old, and I am trying to merge open or merge, but it crashes MAX. It seems that once I get to a dialog box that says "Select Bitmap Image File". it crashes. Has anybody experienced this? Is there a solution?

i did on an old scene once. Did you get it to the point where you can choose the objects to merge? maybe its one in particular

I can pick some groups successfully, but others brings up the dialog, and crashes MAX.

What about opening the scene first, then saving as a current version, then merging. Just a guess though as I've never tried to import something that old.
