  • Zoom into Camera Viewport Script

I want to be able to zoom into the camera viewport when I have an image set to the background - is there a script or something that does this and keeps the image and model locked together ?

    Thanks

Change the camera's focal length or film gate.

You can do that with this plugin: http://www.maxplugins.de/r2010_files...ra_Max2010.zip work in 2011 too, but no 2012 version yet.

I don't think this zooms the viewport background - am I wrong? I would love this functionality too, very handy for aligning models for compositing.

Changing the focal length or film gate wouldn't work - if you imagine lining up a photomontage in the camera viewport.

Thomas, thanks for the link unfortunately we are using max 2009 !! Just my luck ! Did you create this ? If so, do you have an idea of when you will write one for 2012?

          Thanks

EDIT: Ok, I can see it was Peter Watje that wrote it, I might contact him.

There is a max 2009 version too: http://www.maxplugins.de/r2009_files...Max9to2009.zip

And it does exactly what you want, zoom in a camera view and the background stays where it's supposed to be. I've used it many times myself.

Actually having tried the plugin further I really need to zoom into the Viewport Background image with the model locked to it - almost if I was zooming into an image in photoshop, if you know what I mean ?

                  no plugins needed!! (i think)

i dont know if it still works, but when using opengl, you can do what is called "virtual viewport" - actually pretty positive this works in 2009, as i used to use it for cam alignment. autodesk in their wisdom discontinued the feature in their switch to direct 3d.

                  controls below:

                  / (numpad)

Virtual Viewport - to magnify a portion of your view without changing the camera (OpenGL Modus only)

                  +, - (numpad)

Virtual Viewport - Zoom In / Out

                  4, 8, 6, 2 (numpad)

Virtual Viewport - Left, Up, Right, Down

Super Gnu - you are a star !!! It works, amazingly.

                    Indeed I changed to OpenGL and in the viewport with an image set to the background I used;

/ to access Virtual Viewport and when in there

+ and - to zoom in and out,

                    8 is pan up

                    6 right

                    2 down and

                    4 left.

Outstanding, many thanks, this will save me alot of time matching photomontages.

no problem.. what comes from being a dinosaur i guess. i dont think even the guys at autodesk remember that feature. its not in the help files for max any more.

If you go to Viewport Configuration/Virtual viewport you can zoom in up to 4x.
