  • 3ds max crashing and burning

has anyone had the issue of Max attempting an autosave, then telling you its possibly corrupt. Would you like to try and save again? No..
Max then immediately encounters some odd crash and offers to attempt another save. which is also corrupt. It's the ultimate crash and burn - loose your work AND possibly corrupt your file

Its been around in a few versions of max now and I still can't pinpoint what causes this, does anyone else have a better insight into this?

yeah I got it a lot ... but I noticed it happens when you for example have autosave option on and the same time it's autosaving you manually click save than you're doomed. Also if you have big scene and saving takes a bit of time and you quickly click save double or couple times your might also get this problem. But I think in max 2012 it's less, I got it maybe once. But I haven't also worked on anything big so....

That is the only reason we disable autosave in max. Happens to often to leave it on.
A full render queu is a thing of beauty !

Funny this came up, I am setting up a couple of machines and the first thing I did in max outside of setting up the gamma settings was to disable autoback. I use CTRL+S more than CTRL+Z. :O

I had this happen much more with the last release of max - and I found that it was worse if it was on the server because it took longer to save - once I moved the source files to my machine the saving was faster. Now I still do get the lightcache crash every once in a while and that drives me nuts too.

Crashing is well, unavoidable. The thing that makes me laugh is MAX trying to autosave while calculating the light cache..
