I have an issue when modeling, that bugs me, and I was hoping you guys can help. I get these very bad models from Revit, so I have to remodel it. I am trying to trace over planes, but when I extrude, it extrudes up. I also want to turn closed poly's into planes, but my shape disappears. I can image I am missing something simple.

how about extrude with 0 value, then turn it into editable poly?
    Kind Regards,

If shapes are disappearing it usually means that they are not closed or vertices need welding. You can do a 'shape check' to pinpoint any rogue vertices, it's under the utilities tab if you click the 'more' button. As for the extrude issue, I'm not too clear on what's happening. Is it the new geometry or the revit geometry that isn't extruding correctly?

if your shape extrudes in the wrong direction, one trick is to create a flat shape oriented in the correct direction, attach your spline to it, delete the shape, leaving your spline, then extrude. would be great if the extrude modifier had an axis subobject.

I treid this, but it didn't seem to work. I did turn on autogrid, before I started tracing, and that worked for me.

here's the trick I do when I have problems with splines not extruding (usally it happens when you don;t draw them in front, left, right or top view).
            Made short video for you:

Thanks, for taking the time to do that. It seems like it's a lot of hassle, for something, that should be so simple. Picking autogrid does make it a lot easier.

Try using the 'Shell' modifier as opposed to 'Extrude.'

                  Good suggestion, I'll try it.
