It's great and inspiring stuff, but i doubt it is actually the first 3d rendering. Given that Gouraud invented the shading method named after him in 71 i guess they also rendered something already hehe.

despite it being the actual first 3d animation, it's a very fascinating story. reading through the comments it's also really interesting. thank you for posting this here, I guess I would have missed it otherwise..
