  • What color is it?

I thought this was neat, and wanted to share. I was looking for a way to get the dominant color of an image, and this works perfectly.

You can find the average color of an image in Photoshop by going Filter -> Blur -> Average.

This does something more than blur/Average. Nice find - thanks Bobby!

my initial goal was to find a way to get the overall hue of part, or all of, an image. I was thinking along the lines of, the old trick of, poking a hole in a piece of paper to find value in a photo. If I like a photo, or rendering, I can crop parts and find its hue. I like sunsets, and if I find a photo I like I can find out how orange one side of the image is, and how blue the other side is.... I hope this makes sense.

For that kind of specific sampling the blur/average on selections of a shot, or the enlarged sample size technique, will do the job more precisely for you, and faster. I like the various complementary shades that site gives you though, kinda handy for other stuff.
