  • vrayiso..what happened to it?

not seen anything else for doing this kind of stuff with vray, but it seems to have died.. in fact dimo's blog hasnt been updated since 2008..? a new version would be very useful for my current work...

It was programmed for his company mackevision which means he couldn't release the source code or work on updates unfortunately :/

You can kind of do similar things using the free bercon metaball object and picking a source mesh to emit from and then using the texture parameters to layer in noises, but I'm not sure if it works as well or quickly as vray iso used to.

Here's a quote from another thread asking for it:

as said earlier, it's almost impossible to maintain such a plugin for free. It's not only recompiling for every 3dsmax version, but also for every VRay version. Given the speed of Chaosgroup with their releases, you cannot keep up that pace in your freetime. Often people use nightly builds which makes the whole compiling a nightmare. Unless you give the code to Chaosgroup like I did with the multimatte, you cannot compile for every build.
Maybe Chaosgroup should offer a service to link code into their nightly build setup
For newer 3dsmax versions I also need a new Visual Studio to be 100% compatible, at least using the old one is not recommended by Autodesk. This means investment of several hundred euros, that I don't want to spend.
Once we upgrade here at Mackevision I can probably recompile for the new 3dsmax versions.

Me too! In fact my company offered to sponsor the dev costs... Its a shame but I completely understand. Im sure Vlado has bigger fish to fry but its really useful tech and Id love to see it resurface just how it was working.

i recon chaosgroup should buy it or produce something similar.. it would be a VERY impressive addition to vray's capabilities.. such a shame if it just dissapears.
