man, i just tried the switch back to direct3d, did'nt realize until now how much more i love ui response vs. viewport fps...it's actually semi-snappy now.
press f10, render dialogue is there, move vfb? no problem. check pixel values? go ahead sir weeee!

too bad about the tradeoff though, nitrous performance was good, but a responsive UI is so much better

I am on 3dsMax 2012 too and it is hard to believe how laggy it is. I am using Nitrous because somehow Direct3D is causing crashes in max when I touch the viewport so I had to revert to Nitrous.
Nitrous is displaying textures much better but everything is extremely responding slowly.
      ( 2 x Quadro 5800)

Now I will try enabling Aero again -hope this will help.

Nitrous, DX, XBR... I think AD uses the clients like a beta-tester. In our office, after all this bad comments, we remain with max 2011. But IMO I was better stay with max 2010... with Max 2011 we have a lot of problems with lag and slow User Interface. This is the first time from 3d Studio Max 1.0 that I see all this display and viewport problem! Really... Super GPU with million transistor and I can't work with one arch-viz geometry with 500.000 poly imported from Revit.

apperently there's some fuzz about a cuda fix and nitrous speeds here : http://area.autodesk.com/forum/autod...le-/page-last/

seems to be fps related though, i couldn't care less really, i'll use boxes and proxies if i have to, as long as the UI is responsive

Sound good! But do you install the CUDA toolkit 4.1 (249 MB) or Developers Drivers 286.19 (167 MB) ?
EDIT: ok, Developers Drivers 286.19 (167 MB) ^_^

Yes, Arero ON-OF - Max 2011 - 2012 - DX 9.0 or 10.0. Nitrous and OpenGL. No diffrence. Same lag. With orbit/zoom icons all is perfect and smooth.

lukx : did this help mainly with viewport framerates, or did it fix UI response as well?

                              News Flash

It looks like some users have had success solving the viewport lag problem by using an Nvidia driver. We know from experience that this "lag" problem has been fixed by many different things, so there is probably more than one solution. So far, it has been reported fixed by the following:
                              - Changing the Intel network driver (who knows why)
                              - Changing the GPU card to a different company
                              - Changing the Nvidia driver

Here's one thread that is monitoring the Nvidia change:
                              http://area.autodesk.com/forum/autod...racle-/page-2/
Separately, when we first heard about this issue, we started an effort to recode our legacy picking system to use hw-enabled solutions instead of the CPU. We can report that this has also succeeded with several users on a beta forum. So, I hope those that have the lag will find one of these solutions to remove the issue once and for all.

one more thing guys... I assume some of you have opened autocad to check plans during modelling (I usually have) THIS IS KILLING MAX UI RESPONSIVENESS . Also I noticed that when working and watching on another monitor some movie etc in windows media player it's also slowing down UI. So basically run only max and it's faster
