  • Backburner 2012 crap

    Hi all,
i'am getting more and more frantic here...
we can't change priotity's neither suspend jobs, all we can do is delete jobs in BB monitor.
Does anybody know a workaround on that or switch back to 2008?

    thanks and best regards

Totally agree - it's complete crap compared to the simple but solid older versions. One deadline or qube order coming up.

Only way I found is to open monitor in your manager machine and change settings in there. We had a separate machine for bb manager.

Better idea is to get Deadline or similar. We just bought 14 deadline licenses and don't have these problems anymore.

you're right LarsSonparsson, it works on manager mashine... wired....
unfortunatly i think we can't convince our boss to buy deadline. so we have to go with BB. but i want understand and accept why autodesk brings a new max build with a messed up BB though....
It can't be that complicated. damn Monopole
what about a chaosgroup render managment system?

I may get heat for this...I always say if you are serious about rendering, get deadline.

Yes of course... but I'm agree with johnnybefree ! "why autodesk brings a new max build with a messed up BB though...."
It's always the same story with max... A lot of news things but a lot of crappy old things.
With each new version, you have new options but the options that worked very well before become unstable...
We should be able to count on 3dsmax for that, right? so why do I think an "external option" to do something that I should be able to do without ?
I don't think I need Deadline for what I have to do.
                    Maybe I'm wrong ?

so dmitry, would you say one could profit from using deadline even if it were for a small architectural visualization studio mostly doing still frames?

in our case we mostly do vray DR rendering for larger single frames to get them done more efficient, but we also use frequently backburner for our animations and for distributing multiple still frames over our machines over night. or just to render a frame in the background and continue working while it renders out... i guess for this kind of simple stuff one would not profit from deadline? interesting that they have free use of the software for up to two renderslaves, nice way to trial it i guess.

btw, we converted back to bb 2008 because the new (2012) one was unusable for us... damn autodesk!

                      cheers,

One press release that thinkbox did pointed out that a studio had saved the cost of it's deadline licenses due to saving electricity since deadline can shut down a render node when it's done, and wake it up when a new frame comes through so you'll only use the minimum power too!

You can sign up for a 30 day trial too.

We have a lot of custom tools written for Deadline now. It has saved us massive amounts of time and the support is extremely good.

I have worked with BB better half of my career and thought that i'd never need anything else. Until once I worked with deadline and I just couldn't go back to bb. Sure it costs money, but you may look at it the same way you look at vray. Why use vray when max comes with mental ray? Maybe it gets job done faster better? easier to use? industry standard?
If you are purely using DR, there may not be a benefit to using deadline, but if you have to work with animations, where you have to either trouble shoot frames, requee frames, manage slaves etc, deadline goes a long way. Not to mention that it works not just with 3ds max, but nuke, ae and pretty much any other software.
I also had a couple of issues with deadline and new vray builds, and their support was amazing, got back to me with in a day with a solution.
But actions speak louder then words, give it a try, if you like it consider it, if you do not...there is always BB
