I was wondering the same thing recently... because of this new radeon 7970 I'm really not sure if nvidia is still better choice ... taking into account that radeons are much faster in max viewports than nvidia cards.

We have ordered a 7970 card, but it will take a while to get here. When it does, I will be able to give you some benchmarks.

      Best regards,

Even when RT is working on an ATI card you still won't be able to run fast physx/mass-fx sims, particle flow box2, rayfire, or the new fluid solvers.
          Reflect, repent and reboot.
          Order shall return.

There is a post from Pimentel where he talks about the partnership between Autodesk and Nvidia.
It goes way beyond fast viewport drivers.
You can sign up for a developer account at their PhysX site to see whats coming down the pipeline.
There is a download for massFX with a fast GPU cloth simulator for max.
                Reflect, repent and reboot.
                Order shall return.

I like ATI better than Nvidia, so always I used their GPU.
But there are so many CUDA-powered tools and PhysX plugins, whereas ATI (opencl? bullet?) does not.
So I will choose Nvidia for my next GPU. There is no choice but to.
But viewport lag problem makes me anxiously.
