animation per second

okay....another fee question. i am pricing a 90 second animation. The project is for a school and will be of the outside of a large three story building, and several interior spaces. Any per minute rule of thumb numbers?

there's no such thing as rule of thumb for animation, as it would depend on the content

ive had clients give me no info on what they want then ask for a ball park figure for 30 second animation. so i tell them between 1000 and 60,000. lol. then tell them to get back to me when they have more details

yes but telling them between 1000 to 60,000 is fairly rude - they are offering to give you work, so base it on likely scenarios if you want the work !

you can always add a few provisos in there

thats only said to the ones with no concept yet but wants a ballpark figure. without knowing type of animation, amount of characters, scene, props, effects etc etc ive no ballpark to give them except between 1 -60 k. and usually its on someone who says they have a car wash in a parking lot of some mall and want to advertise it expecting animation is a magical cheap way to do it

The developer wants to do this as an alternative to building a full-size mockup of an apartment as a marketing model. The drawings are done in 2-D.

From the architect:

"As far as the developer, I met with him this afternoon for updates and he has $40M in upcoming student housing work coming in the next two years ... possibly more projects, but he's talking $40M conservatively. They are good guys to work for, but finances are shaky right now for them ... they are bringing investors on-board and the more renderings, walk-thrus, etc. that we show them the more professional they appear and the more projects we'll get - i.e. your work will provide the high-end professionalism that we need to continue marketing and developing markets for these student housing projects in Wisconsin, Minnesota, Michigan, Indiana, Illinois, Arizona and Texas for now. We're also bringing in professional management consultants to assist in marketing and the first thing they ask for is 3-D images to put onto website(s) and geared toward students and their parents.

Anyhow, thats about it for now. We do have the next project as housing for Fox Valley Technical College that will have a high-tech appearance and not be as boxy as this first one ... the first one is being done on a shoe-string budget to 'get something built' for their resume, unfortunately, and is not one of my better designs."

I know, a lot of sales talk, but I have done a lot of work for him and I trust him. I think the more work in the future is something he was sold by the developers.

The developer would like a 90-second 'loop' fly-around starting by entering the building, viewing the lobby and 2-story lounge with fireplace, then into a typical apartment viewing the living room/kitchen, then into a typical bedroom. There is a second floor lounge that overlooks the two-story lounge and there is a third floor lounge/meeting room if you need to fill extra frames. They will edit in narration and music into the loop.
