    (BUT IT'S ONLY 2GB??!!!)

    Yah baby!

    Goodbye ATI
After years and years of supporting ATI, I've finally decided it's time to jump ship

The problem is they seem so behind (just look at OpenCL for RT). Also, Autodesk is heavily pushing other plugins from NVidia. I don't know how well ATI will do if Max is "designed" around NVidia.
I'm not saying Max is designed around NVidia, just that Autodesk seem to have an excellent relationship with them. Going forward, I don't want to invest in ATI, if for example MASS Fx would in future require an NVidia card...

Remember I'm not talking about playing games here, I'm talking about using the card for work

oh dont get me wrong, i agree about nvidia generally being a better bet for 3d work.. ive nver owned an ati card as a result.. but id hold fire on getting too excited about this card.. as if that benchmark i posted is anything to go by, then its not gonna be that great for RT.. and as a side observation, if Rt was working ok with the new ati cards, then the 7970 should be by far the fastest (current) card out there.

having said that.. it would be a little odd if it was as bad as that (single) benchmark is making out. however thats the first gpu compute benchmark ive actually seen.

No idea why you'd even need a 4gb model. I mean are you honestly looking forward to building scenes for RT use? If so what happens when your scene already uses say 3,5gb and you decide you need more detail in the geometry, or bigger textures? Why break your workflow for the slight chance that you can survive with the tiny amount of memory your graphics card can hold?
