  • Hospital animation

    Hi-

we were just awarded this project (as contractor) and this animation was done awhile back, by someone else. Do you think it was done in Sketch-Up? What would an animation like this cost to do?

    Thanks

It's possible that the modelling was done in sketchup, but unless you know the people involved I doubt you will know how it was modelled.

I don't think it was animated in sketchup. As far as I know you can only "animate" the camera, but you can't really do keyframing for other things like cars driving and things flying. But you're welcome to correct me if I'm wrong. Even if it was done sketchup, you can't render like that straight out the box, you'll need a 3rd party render plugin. Sorry can't help you with the cost. Haven't done a PAID FOR animation in about 3 years.

it's a 350 million dollar hospital and a low budget animation, but even this animation looks like a tone of work.

The world fly-in is straight from Google Earth. The building fly-around part can be animated directly in sketchup, you can easily keyframe bits and pieces with some plugins. The jerky action gives it away. You can also render with simple add-ons like twilight render to get the simple reflections and lighting. Don't know about the animated water-fountain, probably an animated texture. This level animation could also be done in something like Vue. I'm sure they charged in the thousands, not that it's necessarily to that quality. But really, this is in the order of a minute or two per frame to render.
