  • Nod 32 slow down the system?

Hi guys, this is very off topic,

i recently got Nod32 antivirus for both my workstations. The old one, running windows XP is good as ever, but the new one (win7) is extreamly slow.

Not all the time, which is strange, but about half the time i open a 30 mb TIFF file in photoshop it takes literally 5 minutes to open. Same thing (sometimes) when loading big images like hdr-skies into the material editor in max. Other times its fast as usual. I think this mainly happens when loading from my NAS over the network. Loading from the SSD harddrive seems to be working alright.

I've had older versions of Nod32 before without problems. I got it now mainly because that it didnt affect the speed of the system, so I feel a bit bummed now.

I cant be 100% sure its because of Nod either ofcourse, but the problems started around the same time as I installed it so ill assume thats whats wrong.

Do you have any pointers for me? Should I just get another antivirus? Or is there some settings in Win7 that can be switched off to avoid this?

    thanks
    Kalle

1st thing to do is make sure it is the antivirus causing this. Just disable it for a while and see if you still get the problems. Depending on how you set it up, it could be that it was doing a system scan at the time, and that's why it only happens now and again. Some antivirus programs you can set to "concede to other programs", which means it will use for example 20% resources to scan, but if you need those resoursces for another program, then it will say use only 1% during the time it scans and you busy with something else.
    Kind Regards,

disabling the option to scan your NAS, all then information inside the NAS comes from your computers, if your computers have antivirus all the info should be clean...So you don't need to scan it again every single time you open a file.
I use NOD 32 as well and I did it in that way.

I don't know if a Virus could run inside any format (TIFF,PSD,ETC) so you also can pick the option to exclude them when the Antivirus is scanning
