  • Upgraded to Max2012 - clunky interface

We've just upgraded to Max2012 x64. Anyone else find the interface a bit clunky.

For instance, if you assign a material to an object in the scene, and immediately try and drag the VFB window, there is a 1 or 2 second delay. This is just one example.

We are using i7 2600k with 16GB RAM, SSD main disks, W7 x64 and GTX480 cards.

    Any tips?
    Kind Regards,
    Richard Birket

We still haven't made the jump to Max 2012 because we had so many problems with the Nitrous viewports (along with some other issues). A lot of people have recommended jumping back to DirectX to solve a lot of the perfomance issues, but I can't gaurantee anything.

for the lag of dragging the VFB, you have to disable "progressive refinement" for the viewports. (this option is only available in nitrous - if you've switched back to directx, you wont see this option)

besides, if you've just upgraded to 2012, you should have your 2013 DVD in the post in the next week or two, just use that instead when it arrives and for now use your old max?

Also, keep in mind that it will take another month or 2 after that, for most of the common plugins to be recompiled to 2013.

This isn't specific to Max2012 but has anyone figured out why ALT+middle mouse button yields worse results in regards to FPS than the pan view tool that can be found in the lower right corner of the UI? isn't it basically the same thing? I always have lag when using ALT+MMB but the pan tool works flawlessly.

Nice, I'll check out my NVIDIA drivers. Thanks for that!
