  • SDD drive

    Hello,

i'm thinking of getting a new Dell t-5500 workstation with a SDD drive as boot+windows+cache+apps and a SATA drive for data.

is this a wise or good strategy for speed?

    thanks

Yeah, I love my Intel M-25 SSD. What would the downside be except price?

had my ssd for over 2 years now. Great everything no complaints, now working is actually pleasant. And in the new facility that Im in, every workstation has an ssd, the way it should be!

Well. ok then, will spend 7000 euro for a complete new workstation (2x fast cpu, quadro 4000, 48gb ram, sdd, and 2tb sata)

when i built my config i went with 2 2tb satas, and one is a mirror of another, just in case, i dont have raid or anything. Also a quadro might be an overkill. Depends on what you want to do though.

            Hi,

I am considering adding SSD drive to my current workstation (probably via a SATA cable internally). Will adding a SSD as the Nuke cache drive and a second SSD exclusively storing comp project assets (mostly EXRs) the way to go or just a single SSD that is pointed as the cache folder and for project assets?
            always curious...

problem i have is that i have quite big scenes with lot of objects, so need some good video card.
raid is an option as well, anyway, i have 3 workstations, and all are sync'ed

as dmtry pointed out, you may be better off saving the money and get a gtx680 or a hd7970.

is the gtx680 faster than a qaudro4000 ? or just less money for same speed ?

will check what dell offers as i want to have everything under day+1 support

I have a ocz vertex3 and after 2 years I have to replace it because of the smart test that says I only have 3% of living cells...!

I have checked with CristalDiskInfo and SSDLife Free...

                    best regards

You mean that SDD drives are more fragile than SATA drives ? (should i go for raid SDD ??? if it even exists)

geforces tend to perform better than quadros as long as max is concerned, and they are a fraction of the money.. from personal experience I can confirm that, never seen any substantial gain in viewport speed with quadros. from what I gather online, the hd7970 seems to work even better the nvidia cards, but I have no direct experience with ati cards. don't know how well it does with vray rt either..

I have 2 Kingston SSD's in Raid 0, and they're blazing fast. Had it for about a year now, and no problems. Happy with it

Was about to write the same. For that money, you could have 2 self built workstations.
