I dont quite understand if it's actually free or not.

Here you can only buy it - http://store.kagi.com/cgi-bin/store....oreID=NSQ_LIVE

Here it says the ez version is free - http://fnordware.blogspot.co.uk/2012...z-is-free.html
but you have to get it from the other site, but theres no ez version. is it just the demo unactivated?

EZ version is included in that package.(trial)
But EZ free version doesn't support multichannel EXR.

Missed the part about having to rename the files to *.vri - but other than that it works like a charm.

            Can any1 test it out...

            10000 x 9000 pixels
            50 render layers
Open that vrim- will it take 50+ min to open just like it takes 50+ to open proexr 32bit?

            Thansk ,bye.

I can't test it right now but opening (effectively) 50 x 10000 x 9000 pixel images is never going to be quick

Yup true, but its a lot quicker to drag 50x openEXR to photoshop than opening 1 openEXR with 50 layers :s

how much ram do you use opening 50 10kx9k 32bit images?! is that just a hardcore test of some kind or do you actually use 50 layer multichannel files at that res?

Usually I do roll with around 15-30 EXR 32 bits for my comps... they actually 10x7k...

Ram... not sure, I have 48gb I didn't hit lag yet... - usually max sit in bacground with 10gb in ram rendering some extra passes on top of that...

48gb ddr3 cost only 220£ so its sin to not have it!

Just wanted to say that I'm currently using this on a large format job (10k x 9k renders) with multi-channel vrimg files & it works like an absolute charm. If I have one quibble it's that it splits the alpha as a layer, rather than into the correct channel but that's a really minor problem compared to my previous method of manually splitting out the channels as exrs...etc.

                          Really impressed!
