I'm not sure how to make sense of this question...

We all know that arch viz is a bit different from traditional illustration. It's illustration, photography, CG, sculpting and sometimes even coding combined. I had to sketch a lot of trees in school - perspectives, elevations, plans. Most architects i know love putting tree symbols in their drawings but i don't know many that actually know what kind of a tree will go there. I guess that's what landscape architects are for. Today with 3d, i kinda feel that it would definitely be useful to know a bit more about landscape architecture.

I'm thinking along the lines of knowing which tree goes where latin names, how big they grow, how big you let them grow, etc.

Is there some sort of a book, a manual or something that you can think of that would be useful for 3d? There are lots of titles on amazon, but so far i haven't found anything that seems like it could be useful.

One scenario would be, how to populate an empty scene with ready made trees, without a landscape plan, and make sense of it. It would probably be useful for modeling your own trees as well.

    Dusan,
As a landscape architect, let me say that i don't use any of the books i purchased anymore. i go straight to Google images and pull up whatever is there. The downside to that is that there are some mis-identified images out there, but when you look through all the images available for some species or whatever, you get a good idea of what is correct and what is not.

I was a Landscape Architecture major for one year, before I moved and switched to architecture. For a couple of Plant Science courses I had to use 'Dirr's Hardy Trees and Shrubs: An Illustrated Encyclopedia'. It was a good introduction to the most popular plants used in landscaping.

      Hope this helps,

      Andrew

all the architect I know, and it's a lot, minored in landscape. I have used XFrog when I needed the Latin names.
