ok but when are we getting a proper service pack? Or did they abandon that idea and now these mini update fixes are the in thing?
it's almost september already - when historically they release the subscription advantage pack, but still no service pack
(although if during installation of max you opt to also install the update 3, during installation it calls itself service pack3)
    Kind Regards,
    Morne

Morne, there have been 4 service packs now.
Product update is the new Autodesk term for service pack.

More importantly, PU 9 for 3ds max 2012 is coming, maybe this week, and as 2013 is not widely used (because its ....... (fill in the blank)), that will probably be downloaded more!

Although I'd be interested to see a poll on here of which version of 3ds max people currently use for production. Cant see a poll option anywhere, someone set one up?

We still haven't been able to commit to 2013 despite subscribing some months ago because each and every project we have started with it has failed at some point. We are sticking with 2012. Its difficult to know when to upgrade and use what we have paid for

since update3, 2013 has mostly become usable it seems to me. Just completed a huge project with it and only had minor issues, but that can be forgiven

still on 2012 ( I also have a paid subscription, just don't really see any point in upgrading since it offers nothing very useful to me and the problems seemed extensive)

I guess it can depend on workflow. We have quite an 'old fashioned' approach to modelling which involves file linking of complex models in Autocad. With every project we have embarked upon within 2013, the file link has, at some point, broken, or become unstable. This means a lot of re-working to get back on track.

One day, we will try again...just not yet.

do you guys generally update your slaves? So far, the last three updates have taken a long time to apply. it'll take me 1/2 to upgrade my slaves.

This has got to be one of the most stupid things Autodesk have done...the creative suites are a complete joke and the 2013 extension is utterly pointless for the Maxdesign community, we'll never get access to the mparticles, as you can't get Maxdesign for the Entertainment suite! And who needs mudbox if you are buying the products in one of the design suites, I ask you? BONKERS!

35 minutes per machine. What in the heck can take that long?

I start on every slave / user machine early in the morning, when the pipe is empty and nobody is at work, and took me 2h total for quite a lot of slaves and a dozen of users machine.. It is not that bad..
And on our side, we have way less problems with 2013 than with 2012.. for 2012 was unstable, BB problems and so on. 3dsMax 2013 seems quite good, up to now. I ain't talkin' about the Autodesk policies here, but the product we use day to day...

I started using 2013 when PU3 was released. I completed a couple of project from start to finish with max 2013 and everything worked very well. The only serious issue I came accross was for a project with photo insertion. I discovered that there's a bug in max 2013 where the image used in the background gets stretched. I contacted autodesk support early in july about this, and they could reproduce the problem. According to them it is related to some change in nitrous engine. Haven't had any news since then.
