  • Multiscatter Problem

    Hi there,

I have a Multiscatter Problem. But because their support is absolutely terrible I´ll give it a try, here.
(The support told me that there are always some nodes with problems and I should try to test it locally... on a 3dsmax renderslave installation... oh really ??
after telling them I can´t render locally on a 3dsmax slave installation and distributed Rendering works fine I haven´t heard anything from them)

We recently upgraded from VrayScatter to Multiscatter. After installation we have some serious problems with some of our render nodes.
Everything works fine with Distributed Rendering. All of the nodes. When rendering with backburner I get the error as seen in the attachment
on some of the machines. The problem is, this error pops up even if no Multiscatter was used. This makes those slaves unusable for rendering
with Backburner. The worst part about it.. it´s a Mental Ray Error
Maybe someone run into a similar problem or has an idea where to start looking, I´d much appreciate it.
Max 2011/64, Vray 2.30.01, Multiscatter 1.1.10. All slaves are running win7/64

I can't help you, except to be in agreement with the poor technical support over at iCube.

Im not sure if this is related to this issue, but I remember reading that you need to have the same microsoft visual C++ libraries for multiscatter to work properly. If those libraries are not installed, or not the same version some error may occur. Verify that you have those libraries (I think they should be included as a part of multiscatter installer) on your/other slave machines.

The other suggestion I may have is since its a mental ray error, you may want to check to see that those mental ray related nodes are where they need to be for mental ray to see/load them.

You´re my hero ! That was the problem. Visual C++ redist. 2010 was missing on those machines. Now it works. Thank You very much.
Haha I ´m going to write their "support" a mail... they will hate me...
