  • Adobe Creative Suite 2 now available for free

    http://lifehacker.com/5973750/downlo...rator-for-free

Part of the suite is Acrobat 3D, which I have seen used in some visualization workflows for realtime deliverables.

they mention that so many people trying to get it at the moment that it is like a DdOS attack so servers are at a standstill. Maybe try again a bit later

            It's not free.

            http://blogs.adobe.com/conversations...n-servers.html

Effective December 13, Adobe disabled the activation server for CS2 products and Acrobat 7 because of a technical glitch. These products were released over 7 years ago and do not run on many modern operating systems. But to ensure that any customers activating those old versions can continue to use their software, we issued a serial number directly to those customers. While this might be interpreted as Adobe giving away software for free, we did it to help our customers.

"But to ensure that any customers activating those old versions can continue to use their software, we issued a serial number directly to those customers."

That last part pretty much settles it. The serial numbers are only available 'directly' to those that are allowed to install and utilize the software legally...which just so happens to be anyone with an Adobe ID.

Just as an FYI, the link is working again: http://www.adobe.com/downloads/cs2_downloads/index.html

Wonder what would happen to their stock if they said "Yes, all CS2 products are now free for everyone."

They can't advertise nor even admit that it is free, but what they can do is institute a cost effective support method that allows existing CS2 customers to install their products without the need of registration servers or customer support. Any form of verification or validation would require cost, and evidently Adobe decided that the cost is less by allowing anyone with an Adobe ID to legally access the CS2 products.

Politically speaking, CS2 is not free. Technically speaking, CS2 is free.

Hmm, not sure we have enough evidence to come to that conclusion yet. One would have to pour through the TOS of the Adobe ID to determine that, and I highly doubt that there is anything that covers that stance in this case. The Adobe ID is essentially the doorway through which Adobe grants it's users access to their content which they deem appropriate for each individual user. Not only this, but they are aware and have stated such, that every Adobe ID holder has access to this CS2 content.
