    Hello All,

I'm just now getting into HDRI environments and I have a question. The tutorials I have taken a look at always have the HDRI map visible in the background. Is it possible to have the HDRI effect the scene but not show up in the background?

    Thanks,

    Scott

I have one more HDRI question. If I would like to show the background in the scene I notice I can not seem to get the HDRI map to fit correctly. The map I'm experimenting with is 4800 pix wide and I only see a small part of it. It's not fitting in the view port correctly and I have not found any information to correct the problem. The tutorials show the user placing the map in the material editor and light texture maps slot and the map magically fits. What am I missing?

        Thanks,

        Scott.

do you have a full sphere hdr?

          so 4800x2400?

if so make sure you choose Spherical.

if its from a mirror ball then you'll need to use something else. probably angular.

I'm attaching a low res. version of the map. I tried every map setting with the same results. I'm new to HDRI mapping effects do what do you think?

            Thanks,

well thats not a full sphere. only half

so thats where your problem is coming from.

so 2 options, either use sphereical mapping still. but try setting the vertical tiling 2 and with an offset of .75

or you can apply it to an inverted sphere and uv unwrap it. and then render with a light material.
