I had this link in my bookmarks. Most of the links are dead, but I grabbed these for my inspirational board.

just after I found these I was reading an article on a 20 million dollar facility going up near by (http://www.wqow.com/story/20617878/2...in-high-demand). The renderings, in the article, were god awful!. Do we not value quality? I had no feeling for the images shown in the 20 million dollar renderings, but these pencil renderings make me feel warm and fuzzy, and like the person cared about the project. Even if what they are showing is, "Good enough", doesn't it reflect poorly on them? The third pencil rendering is my wallpaper. So, maybe the goal of all my projects, is to have people want to frame it.

Well regardless of the price not every project needs high quality advertising material. I would imagine a veterans home would draw attention in any case since there is real demand there even without pretty images.

but, nobody needs anything in life other than the basics, yet we invest in quality all the time. Illustrations are something tangible to quality. I have never seen an architect roll open a set of construction documents and say "look at our craftsmanship!"

It's paid for by federal grants & the state. There wasn't a rendering budget, and it didn't need selling.

okay, bad example, but I am sure you get my point. I wonder if there is an average percentage allocated for graphics on most projects.

Well the developers will have a budget for marketing and the marketers will have a budget for rendering. What those rates are, I don't know, but it seems marketers will generally go for quantity/price > quality.
