  • The dreaded video card question

    Hello all,

    I'm currently using a NIVIDA FX 4600 and it has worked great for the past several years
    but with GPU technology and Vram becoming more prevalent in the CGI world, it might be time to make a change. I realize it's difficult to find a card that will perform well across multiple platforms but I wanted to see what some of you may be using and what you recommend. Please keep in mind I'm still on an XP64bit OS platform so that may effect what drivers are still being supported on an XP OS. I primarily use the following software;

    Max 2010 with Vray 1.5...soon to upgrade to 2.
    After Effects CS4 with 3D element, pro-shades etc.
    Premiere CS4
    PhotoShop CS4
    Illustrator CS4

    I was recommended by one person to take a look at the GTX 680.

    Thank you,

    Scott

    I am not sure, but isn't the 680 like two 580 chips one card?

    You have to get a NVIDIA Card, or some of the GPU Hardware acceleration won't work in your apps.
    Since they just released a brand new prosumer card (Titan) for about 1000€ i would recommend buying that,
    because it has the most GPU memory.

    Of course if money is not an option you could take a look at nvidia quadro range,
    Or put two cards into your PC, one for all the display stuff and a Tesla card for VrayRT
    Reflect, repent and reboot.
    Order shall return.
