  • Convert Revit Family file to max/cad - without revit?

    Hi all

Is there anything out there I can use to convert a revit family file to max or autocad (besides revit)?
    Kind Regards,

You can always download the trial of Revit and use it in demo/viewer mode. It still allows export of .fbx in viewer mode.

I downloaded a model from a manufacturer's website. Options were either 2D cad or BIM file. In this case it was revit family file. In the time it takes me to download and install revit, I already modelled the thing 10 times over. I'm already halfway with the model. Its just a small bathroom fitting. Just thought I could save 10 minutes modelling the thing...
        Kind Regards,

I think it only imports rvt files, not the families.

Yes that is correct. In laymens terms a family is kind of a block or template of a certain "type" of element, it is not the revit "scene file" itself

Last I imported rvt files, I got everything in correctly. What family types don't come in?

well this was a RFA family file. NOT a RVT scene or project file
Max cant import RFA, only RVT

Hello dlparisi, could you please elaborate a bit? I have tried this as a demo, and don't remember seeing such an option. Thanks in advance!

you just export, as you would a dwg, but chose FBX.

lol, I know how to export it, I was thinking, based on some comments here, that there was a version you could install, just to open/view/export. I guess it is just the same as the 30 day trial...oh well, thanks guys.
