  • Crazy Geometry

Have you guys been experiencing geometry going crazy? On almost every job in MAX 2013 I have geometry that jets out into space for no reason. Once it goes crazy I can't select it. I have to turn thing off, one by one, to see which parts break. Once everything, but the crazy geometry is off, I select all to delete it.

Hi Bobby. One of my colleagues had this problem. In his case the geometry was still as it should be, but it was the display driver making it look like verts had moved into space. You should still be able to select the original geometry via the select by list dialog. Once you do this try going to the sub-object vert selection and do a window around the offending geometry. You might find the display re-sets itself by doing this.

Yeah - I found a tonne of problems with nitrous and this. Transforms seem to be applied in a lot of ways that you wouldn't expect them to in max.

it's sure a workflow killer! at least I now know its only a display problem, and a reboot is all that is needed.

I have experienced using the move command will sometimes move the object in the correct direction, but not accurately, and very fast in large increments. On top of this, the undo seems to not work for any further actions...So when it happens, I immediately save and restart max and upon opening the scene, it is fine again.

I find when I'm in vertex mode or poly mode and move stuff, the viewport doesnt update until I deselect everything and exit sub-object mode. Very annoying. So I would move a vertex, but the viewport shows it in the previous postion!
              Kind Regards,

I also think those problems are related graphics card.
My older card did some crazy things when it was getting hot.
Try switching to direct3d, that will solve most of the problems but also give you lower speed.

Best way would be to upgrade, I have a Titan since a few days and feel like I am working in a completely different app.
And for the first time Vray RT is running without problems, lighting is so much fun now.
It's not cheap but the active shade with RT alone will save you so many hours that it will pay for itself in a short time.
                  Reflect, repent and reboot.
                  Order shall return.

Nitrous Is great when it works. Sadly and typically for an Autodesk creation it doesn't. It an unfinished feature, and does not work properly. You will get all sorts of problems including scene geo artifacts, weird Frame buffer window behaviour, other windows sticking, random crashes, and so on - especially if you have a consumer GTX type card. I suggest using Direct3d.
