  • viewport speed of max 2014.... ?

    Whats your impression ?

i´ve tested at home the demo of max 2014 on my Geforce GTX 285 and was quite impressed. It felt very slick and fast.. but !!! in the Company, i also tested it and vieportspeed dropped to a tenth.... !!!! with a quattro fx 4000 i think.. not quite sure.. also i had problems there with the z-buffer display, where objects in the backround where drawn in front... arrrgh...

but a drop with the same scene from 30 fps to 3 fps.. thats uggly. So any experiances from you ?

I'd like to know other people's real-world experiences also. My feeling is that new graphics card drivers or a new max PU will be needed to get things moving as smoothly.

But 1/10th is a terrible drop.... Might be an isolated case?

Yes i think so.. because my computer at home was so fast in viewport with the new max, i was realy exited.. and just as i wanted to show it to the people at office,it was just the other way round.
      hmm.

always wait for PU ...thats a rule of thumb for AD products.
        however...
i am very happy with 2014 so far...installed trial at home ...seems to be promising release.

Your speed issue is weird, shouldnt the quadro card be actually quicker?

i got a new nvidia quadro k5000 running with max2013design on windows7 64bit and the viewport performance even with the newest drivers is pure shit. with my old quadro with 125 mb memory running on max2011 with performance driver i had much much better performance. i think it´s not possible with such a card...

these quadro cards i think you can completely forget since autodesk switched over to the nitrous thing and stopped the performance driver support.

i guess with PU you mean Product update...

this is notified in the device manager

              NVIDIA 18.08.2012 9.18.13.593

for me it feels like something is not matching between the card and the PC...like there is a bottleneck that slow completely down...

just installed another actual version...the performance version not the autodesk certified version that was the last install...

311.50-quadro-tesla-grid-desktop-win8-win7-winvista-64bit-international-whql ....now the driver says NVIDIA 06.04.2013 9.18.13.1150...

                      performance: 29 000 000 polys 42 000 000 verts wireframe boxed 1.5 FPS says xview...

Uhhh... tricky :s How much were you getting with max 2013?

Maybe change DX in Max from Nitrous to 11/9 etc etc?

                          this is with 2013

with DX 9 i get xview performance 0.8

...can test this file with 2014, cause for example vrayplugin for 2014 is not yet out !?

Apparently the one for 2013 will work in 2014 - minus some minor issues

I wanted to verify my results on my work computer before I responded.

I am getting incredible viewport performance increase with Max 2014. Many of our large, cumbersome scenes are painful in 2013, but in 2014 it's like it's a completely different file. I even checked to make sure all the pieces were there because I didn't believe the performance increase.

Both computers are Dual Xeon Comps, one has a GTX680 and my work computer has a Quadro K5000. I do prefer the performance of the K5000 over the 680, especially in our heavier files, just no comparison in performance. Should be very similar since they are basically the same card with some tweaks here and there, with different drivers of course. K5000 running 311.50 (3 Monitors @ 1920x1200ea) GTX680 running 314.22 (3 Monitors @ 1920x1200ea)

Another thing to note is that there are multiple versions of the Nitrous driver for 2014. My tests were using the DX11 version. There is also a DX9 version as well as a Software version. If you are experiencing sub standard performance you may want to check to see which one Max is using.
