  • Anyone know a source for good maple flooring boards?

I may need to build a wooden floor and I would really like to use Suurland's floor generator script and multi-texture map. However they don't have any maple floor board sets available - and that is what I need.

Does anyone know of a source for a good set (at least 20) individual maple floor board textures? Is anyone else making these sorts of kits?

This kind of thing, but in maple:

    Any leads greatly appreciated!

PS I am well aware of Arroway and I own their collection - but I want/need *individual* boards in good resolution

I dont think you do need individual boards. Use one huge one that tiles, break all the board models from floorgen into separate objects (convert to edit mesh, explode to objects), use the mass randomiser script to offset the uv position, collapse it all back to an edit poly, throw on a material by element and use the multitexture plugin to randomize the gamma/hue slightly.

Should you wish to get a worn edge effect/control over each piece, you can do a board sized gradient map in photoshop getting darker towards the edges in mapping channel 2 and throw that on the edit poly at the end mapped to 'face'.

I don't know a good source for maple flooring boards, but I do know a good source for maple/bacon doughnuts

That would work for sure too, but it does lack the flexibility that I might need if the clients decide to play with the scale/proportions of the flooring. That was why I wanted to use FloorGen and the separate maps. It would not be at all unlike them to decide to change the boards around considerably at the 11th hour

This could be the planB - although I'm still left needing to find a sufficient map that would do that that isn't already broken into boards....

This is what the UVW xform modifier was made for

I find only having to deal with one large swathe of wood much easier than a pre-cut map or single boards, even if it does take a while to make in the first place.

            You could try this

They might be a bit low-res for your needs...

I had figured that might be the case based on the work you do. There is another option: http://www.extremetextures.com

Plenty of great looking wood maps but no maple specifically...

Thanks Ben. No maple, but nice textures all the same.

                            I should do the following:
                            Plan A
                            1. Use a big texture in PS ,select the Slice select tool to draw the rectangles of the images i want to break in to smallest chunks.
                            2. Save for web, select the images you want and click save,in the rollover tab slices under the name choose selected slices.
                            3. A folder named images its created containing your slices.

It doesnt have to be a huge map you can make your own variations once you have 10 or more by rotating them.

                            Plan B
                            1. Recolorize them in PS using actions, easy to batch process a huge.

                            Tell me if suits you.

@oligophant: Thanks. This is clever, but my preference is still to find good hi-res board maps. So far no luck, but I still have a couple of weeks before the project gets rolling!
