Max viewport issue

I've had a problem with 3dsmax's viewports changing from "orthographic" to perspective (grrrrr) every other time I click on one to activate it. This started happening after upgrading to max2009, previous versions didn't do this. I don't use viewcube, steering wheel or any of that stuff. After a thousand clicks on the "top" viewport turning it into perspective (when I want it to remain top orthographic so I can see what the hell I'm doing in plan), I've run out of patience and am pleading for help. Surely this is happening to other ppl too but shockingly I can't find anything on google. Nothing about it in preferences that I can find either.
