  • Display issue - white dialogue boxes

    Howdy group.

We always have issues with our viewport performance. The main problem is that our various dialogue boxes and VFB often turn white. Only way to clean them up is to close them and then open them again.

Which setting should I be looking at to clear this up? I am using a GTX670 (latest drivers 314.07) and at the moment am using Direct3D 9.0 in Max2013 (PU6).

    Suggestions please.
    Kind Regards,
    Richard Birket

Try 2014. It's really a lot better in the viewport department. And any reason you're not using Nitrous? It's a bit flabby from time to time but generally a hell of a lot better than D3D/OpenGL etc.

Only just upgraded to 2013 and have now dropped off the subscription program. I will try Nitrous, but we always had problems in the past. Maybe PU6 will have helped.

Think you made a bad/unfortunate decision, there! 2013 is garbage. Massive bugs that never got squashed even on PU6. 2014 has addressed all of them (the ones that bothered me anyway) and is looking quite solid so far. I would strongly suggest you upgrade and avoid the 2013 pain...

Not surprisingly, the exact same comments were made about 2009 and 2012 and again at 2013. If we'd have had our way, we'd have stayed with 2012.

Yes 2012 was the last solid release, but 2014 really is looking good so far, from my own direct experience since launch. Head and tales above 2013. And actually I don't remember hearing anything positive around 2013 when it was released, only complaints. The general feeling with 2014 is that it's back to 2012 in terms of stability and speed etc.

Are you using the new material/map browser? I had a lot of viewport issues before switching back to the old one.

FYI: to switch back to the old one locate the file SME.ini - usually in C:\Users\YourUserName\AppData\Local\Autodesk\3dsMa xDesign\2013 - 64bit\ENU\plugcfg_ln\
and change the line "UseOldMtlBrowser=0" to "UseOldMtlBrowser=1"

Not what you want to hear but Alex is right, +1 for Max 2014. They even appear to have fixed the bug you posted on the AREA last year where Max would crash if you try to select the layers to import when filelinking from AutoCAD.

It will be great if Max2014 is a success. Its about time they did something right. However, we are happy to sit on the fence a little while longer...

+1 for 2014. A LOT better than 2013. It fixes the issues from 2013. Been on it at one site now since it was released. No issues except one: Once a week sometimes twice a week, when you go into say front view or left view, it shows you some other view at an angle. For example you press "F" for front view, but then it would show you a left view, and it would rotate the view so your horizon is at an angle. Maximise minimise view times then it gets fixed. Sometimes have to exit max and restart to fix it. But besides that, everything is peachy
