  • M stuck!

    Hello Guys!
working on a big prj with very tight deadline.. everything was going smooth until now where i am stuck with replacing trees.. I got a sketchup model from client.. have replaced various trees in 3dsmax using soulburn script which worked well. Now i want to replace a tree which is made of 6 instanced planes ( with image mapped), Which means 1 tree 6 planes! & there are around 1000 such trees! how can i get rid of 5 planes keeping only 1 plane so that i can replace it? All planes are instance of each other

Go to the original sketchup file.... That tree should be a component, delete the 5 planes and e port the trees again

Sketchup free doesn't have the option to export in 3ds or CAD.....I don't have my computer handy but you could send me a link where I can download the file and your info and I would able to do it for you when I get back. In about 6-7 hours.

Try to open the sketchup file directly in max....if the component is load it as instance you will be able to resolve your problem right away

while importing in max, it is coming as i said above i.e. in 6 planes for one tree... i just noticed this tree is also having some horizontal planes, with some efforts i think i shall be able to make selection of them in side viewport. Anyways Thank you so much for your tips Flino! I think it is the time when i must learn basic of sketchup aswell See you!

Colin Senner has a script that finds coincident objects. You could use one of the Soulburn scripts to reset all the objects rotation and scale to make sure that each cluster of planes for each tree are coincident. Then you could use Colin's script to find overlapping objects. It seems like it should work.
