Very annoying alright - 3rd party developers have made max a really strong program for vfx but autodesk don't seem to think so. Maybe it goes against their long term plans?

It seems as if they only want to do Viz in max and nothing else.

I think this thread is off base. I would assume that, just as Civil 3d and REVIT are both owned by Autodesk but are two entirely different softwares managed and run by entirely different staffs, that Max and Maya are the same. Autodesk just happens to own them. I think people are reading too much into this.

              How so?

Autodesk buys a standalone piece of software. discontinues it, integrates it into maya. To use the software, now you have to have maya.

it will be a few years before naiad is usable out of maya (imo). I think there is nothing to worry about. Naiad is a fluid sim software, mostly used in film (also imo), which I think is what maya's is suppose to be geared towards. If any of you think its gonna be easy to learn it, it's not. Its quite the opposite. So it will be geared towards a very specific purpose (also imo).

i think they will slowly try to shift us to start buying those ultimate suites with MAYA, MAX, SOFTIMAGE and MUDBOX.....this is where its heading.
I am sure there are many MAYA users that really would love to have the MAX features in their package of choice.
If those two packages were meant to be the same why would not they just merge them? It doesnt make sense business wise, let face it.
The only thing i would love to have is some sort of more universal bridge to bring stuff back and forth from max to maya and vice versa without having to touch anything else but ONE button

I guess you missed the button Send to Maya / Send to Max starting in 2012 or 2013 version I think... ?

                    its already there

sure it is but its not working in many cases
especially when it comes to transporting rigs...it still sucks....that button needs to work flawlessly

Ah yea true. Its rubbish but for my needs of moving boxes works great

I learn tho if I don't want to have tri generated from max to maya I have to flatten my model and then add edit poly modifier on the top... just in case its any use to any1

Its interesting what he said. I sure hope that in those small fixes and tweaks there will be space for Python and PyQT implementation. That would help a lot Max users.

                            Thanks, bye.

From on of the comments on that page:

"But in a rather depressing show overall there was one bright spot… glaring, really. With not a whole lot going on on the floor, I spent the whole day watching both sessions of V-Ray day up in room 203A.

And what I saw was just one excellent VFX presentation after another, perhaps the best I have ever seen at Siggraph, complete with breakdows and tons of info – all using V-Ray and many that used Max as well. How refreshing!

And believe it or not, the icing on the cake was a wonderful presentation by Ikea (of all things) and how they are using Max and V-Ray to supplement thier catalog photography for their many millions of customers all around the world.

Yes, they are going way out of their way to produce very high-end renderings that must look absolutely no different than their photography and it was a joy to watch and a lot of fun to see how pleased they are with the software. Again, refreshing.

So my thanks to Vlado and the Chaos Group for being what seems to be one of the very last companies out there with true personal and corporate integrity. Creating and honestly supporting a reasonably-priced, extremely capable product that greatly benefits the CGI community – what a concept!"

Is there a way to get the presentations for the guys who did not have the chance to attend Siggraph?
