What the heck is a Vismat material?

I think its a sort of unified material export format, so it can be read by multiple software. For example you can save shader from max and load it exactly the same in maya and the other way around.

I believe it was started in the Rhino version of Vray.
I really like the idea of a unified material especially these days with studios using "suites" (i hate that ADSK term)

there are many different ways to handle or make use of a unified material. But its very very useful. Even if you want to stay in the same program, you can still benefit big time from the exported material. S
