Its pretty good, but 220+ hours to render? Good grief.
        Kind Regards,

It's about 24 seconds long, assuming it was 25 frames per second and assuming it was 225 hours that would be 23 minutes a frame, which isn't completely insane if they only used one machine.

+1 with Chris, pretty sure that PhoenixFD can do same (or even better-->foam and splatches in addition) with ease.
Want me to have a try, just to be sure ?

Phoenix can def. do better, and vray can render it faster too.

It's just a good hdri - if it had reflective caustics or a more complicated lighting setup i'd understand more but I'd get shouted at if I tried to get away with that taking 20 mins a frame in 1080p.

If it's being done on a 3 year old laptop, then sure...

Just spotted there's a link to the original Youtube clip with extra information below the video.

This one took quite some time to setup and finetune. Neither Blender's internal render engine nor Yafaray produced acceptable results, so I decided to use LuxRender in unbiased MLT mode.

Combined with a custom HDR background image lighting the scene, it delivers very realistic output at the cost of astronomic render times. One frame out of 710 took about 22 minutes to render, but without a good noise filter it would have taken at least twice as long.

                Here's the .blend file:

I works with Blender 2.63 and higher, make sure you have the LuxRender addon installed and active. You will need to rebake the simulation and use a different HDRI environment though.
