  • anyway to set gamma 2.2 for saving max 2014 images?

    Before there was gamma save setting in gamma lut preferences now it's gone. I can burn in 2.2 while saving but it requires manually changing it form 1.0. Where did autodesk put the setting to be always on?

    It's not always on, but more automatic. It looks to see if you are saving to a float image type or 8bit and then applies the appropriate gamma.

    How are you saving the images?

      You have to do it from MaxScript:
      Code:
      fileoutgamma=2.2
      or
      Code:
      fileoutgamma=1.0

        I've not had this issue saving PNGs, VRIMGs or EXRs.

        I wonder why I don't seem to have this problem. Weird.

          Thanks Vlado. Troy I have this problem when using "don't apply color correction" and in vray frame buffer sRGB on to get 2.2 and then click save by default there is gamma 1.0 and for example when saving tiff I need to switch it to 2.2 to burn it in. Why the hell autodesk removed this setting ? !

            Well, the default is 2.2 and they didn't really want users to change that without knowing what they are doing. But of course, if you have a saved file where the setting was 1.0 originally, it becomes a headache. I suppose they decided that preventing users from changing the value was more important

                Fresh opened max and still same problem so I don't think by default it's set to 2.2 when saving tiff.
                With exr it's correctly burned in. But png, tiff not.

                  this is strange.... because based on manual when saving jpg etc it should save with 2.2 http://docs.autodesk.com/3DSMAX/16/E...umber=d30e4575

                  I though the problem was only when saving form VFB but it's the same when saving with standard max buffer

                    Is that with VRay or scanline? If VRay can I see your color mapping settings?

                        Ah, when I render to PNGs, I switch the mode to color mapping and gamma and then it saves out properly. When saving as VRIMGs or EXRs I use mode: None.

                          Check if your 3ds Max gamma settings are enabled in the first place...

                          Best regards,

                              Why would you have LUT on? Don't you need just gamma? Also, did you try the fileoutgamma=2.2 in the MaxScript editor?

                              Best regards,
